Coming of Age as a Global Citizen
Museum of London
After the war, Londoners who were left in the city that was damaged by bombs, aimed for reconstruction. "By 1961, around 33% of Londoners were under 25."
The London look was a melting pot of different styles. "It brought street style to the catwalk, mixed British traditions with ethnic sensibilities, and valued irreverence, innovation, and wit."
Between 1950 and 2000 Londoners changed London. From being a city where difference could be looked on with suspicion, London became famous for its diversity.
Victoria and Albert Museum
Unlike Karim's costume in The Jungle Book, these costumes in The Lion King were not stereotypical nor revealing.
This promotion poster for the Sex Pistols used a collage technique with a rebellious edge to attract their fans.

Coming of Age as a Writer
The British Library
artofthestate.co.uk
The British Library showcased that genres such as novels and religious text were more frequently produced than other works such as poems or short stories. This library also housed many works of songwriters such as Handel, Mozart, and even the beloved Beatles.
The Imperial War Museum
During World War II families had to make due with what was available, which was not much. Families were given ration booklets that only allowed them to obtain a certain amount of food to feed everyone in their household.
During the war, everyone was encouraged to carry their gas mask with them at all times in case there was a bombing, especially the children. When kids were evacuated they didn't know if they would ever see their families again.
The Florence Nightingale Museum
Florence Nightingale was an iconic figure in the field of nursing. She revolutionized the profession and required that all of her nurses wear uniforms so that they could be easily identifiable and also viewed as figures of authority.
Even at the end of her life Florence Nightingale continued to remain an active part of nursing. She wrote about many aspects of the field of nursing that are still used today.

Coming of Age as a Skeptic and Believer
Oxford University
Oxford's buildings portray how historic the university is to this day. From walking around the campus, it was evident that there are elements of prestige and wealth all around the school.
Like a lot of people, Sebastian had some doubts about his faith and was ironically placed in Christ's Church College which is the only college at Oxford that has its own chapel.
Hampton Court Palace
Sebastian came from a wealthy family and would have appreciated the decadence at Hampton Court.
The fountain was a recurring theme throughout the novel Brideshead Revisited and represented cleansing and rebirth.
Kenwood House
The scenic country home of Kenwood House was designed by the same man who designed the Marchmain house.

Coming of Age as a Traveler
The John Soane Museum
The John Soane Museum houses a large collection of pieces that he accumulated from different places around the world. When he was on the Grand Tour, he didn't have the ability to buy all the things that he wanted to, much like Lucy.
The National Gallery
While Lucy was in Italy, she witnessed a bloody murder, much like the one that has taken place in the painting Judith by Liss.
The National Gallery houses paintings of several views, some like the ones Lucy would have seen in Italy.
The boat ride from Tate Britain to Tate Modern allowed us to see many different views of London.

Coming of Age as a Worker
As a governess, Jane found herself lonely at times because she felt like she had no one to confide in.
Only when invited would Jane be able to enter into the drawing room.
Foundlings had to grow up too quickly, because they had to take care of themselves, much like Jane had to.
Ophelia was betrayed by someone she loved, like Jane Eyre was betrayed by Mr. Rochester.
This woman is in despair, because she has done something wrong. Jane experienced this same sort of agony when she had to leave Rochester.

My Life as a TCU Horned Frog
Initially, I was not planning on going to TCU because it is so close to home, but when I heard about the small class sizes, great school spirit, and great teachers I had to check it out. Then when I heard how prestigious the nursing program was, I knew it was the school for me. Although I have to spend a lot of time in the library because the classes are so rigorous, I know that I am in the right major for me.
Although I am thankful for everything that TCU has given me academically, I am also incredibly grateful for the people I have been introduced to and become friends with this past year. I met my best friend at the first frog camp and after an hour of talking to each other we decided to room together instead of doing pot luck. Here is the two of us at a TCU football game.
I also have had the privilege of joining a sorority. It has been a great experience, and I have gotten to know so many great girls. Here are some of my sorority sisters and I before a Pi Phi formal.
I was able to become really good friends with the people on my hall. Here we are during one of our snow days this past winter.
